GameStop pursues $55.5 billion bid for eBay
Video game retailer GameStop has made a private $55.5 billion takeover offer for e-commerce company eBay, the BBC and other foreign media reported on May 4. GameStop offered $125 per eBay share, $20 above Friday’s New York close, and plans to pay in a mix of cash and stock. The BBC said GameStop secured a $20 billion debt financing commitment from TD Securities. CEO Ryan Cohen said he would appeal directly to shareholders if eBay’s board rejects the proposal.

South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Communications Commission is preparing to establish the Korea Broadcast Media Communications Promotion Institute, its chairman Kim Jong-cheol (김종철) said on Sunday. Kim said neither promotion without regulation nor regulation without promotion is sustainable amid intensifying global media competition. The commission will support legislative discussions after gathering opinions from across society. It also set future priorities of fair order, restoring trust in media and advancing in the AI era.

South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission on Monday held its first work briefing at a National Assembly committee meeting, about two months after Chair Kim Jong-cheol was appointed. Lawmakers focused on delayed relicensing of broadcasters, controversies over universal viewing rights and moves to enact an integrated media law. Discussions also covered Grok AI deepfake sexual exploitation, youth overdependence on social media and preparations for enforcement rules for the amended Information and Communications Network Act.
