Hanwha Power wins approval for 151 MWh battery ESS electric container ship design

Hanwha Power won approval from U.S. classification society ABS for the concept design of a 1,700-TEU battery-powered container ship, the company said on Thursday. The design applies a large-capacity 151 MWh battery energy storage system and uses container-type batteries to secure propulsion power. It is designed to operate without direct carbon emissions while sailing by linking with port charging infrastructure. Hanwha Power also plans to broaden its eco-friendly ship propulsion solution portfolio.
