Korea\'s three mobile carriers post mixed Q1 results, bet on AI growth after hacking fallout
South Korea\'s three mobile carriers reported mixed first-quarter results. LG Uplus improved performance on balanced growth across businesses, including AI data centres. SK Telecom showed a clearer recovery from the previous quarter, citing improved AI profitability and a rebound in its wireless business after a SIM hacking incident. KT\'s profitability weakened despite expanding AX, as a one-off property-sale base effect and customer compensation costs weighed.

KT Q1 operating profit falls 29.9 percent on cost burden, seeks rebound with AX
KT posted first-quarter consolidated revenue of 6.78 trillion won and operating profit of 482.7 billion won, down 1.0 percent and 29.9 percent from a year earlier. It cited base effects from a one-off gain last year and higher costs, including a customer reward programme and some expenses linked to an incident. KT said growth in wireless and fixed-line services and expansion of its AI transformation business were positive signs, and it plans to step up AX initiatives.
