LG Uplus will expand its public cloud business by combining Amazon Web Services' (AWS) global cloud infrastructure with its own network and security operations capabilities.

LG Uplus said on Aug. 12 it officially registered its AWS infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) brokerage offering, 'LG Uplus Brokerage Service for Amazon Web Services', on the Digital Service Use Support System.

The Digital Service Use Support System is a public-sector-only platform where the central government, local governments and public institutions can search for information on digital services, including IaaS, software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud support services, and sign contracts.

The registration allows the public sector to use LG Uplus' AWS cloud infrastructure brokerage service through the Digital Service Use Support System. LG Uplus said it plans to expand its public cloud business through the move.

LG Uplus plans to support public institutions in adopting AWS services tailored to their own standards and operational characteristics. It is focusing on a chatbot for civil-complaint consultations and work support using generative AI services, AI-based information search services, and building databases to manage statistics and administrative data.

LG Uplus plans to expand its services by using its capabilities in networks, security, data and AI transformation (AX). It plans to propose initial infrastructure configurations for cloud adoption in the public sector and support stable service operations and efficiency even after cloud migration, supporting the entire process of digital innovation.

Young-hoon Jung (정영훈), an executive director in charge of LG Uplus' enterprise AI business, said, "LG Uplus will support public institutions in adopting AWS cloud infrastructure more quickly and stably, and provide an operating system optimised for each institution's work environment and security requirements." He added, "LG Uplus will bring together its AX business capabilities and its know-how in developing and operating AI services such as AICC to establish itself as a key AX partner supporting public institutions' cloud native."
