KT has released a report analyzing the status of AI transformation (AX) and key challenges in the finance and public sectors.

KT said on Sept. 14 it published two editions of the 'KT AX Insights Report', one on finance and one on the public sector. The reports were produced based on a survey conducted in July of 200 employees at domestic banks, securities firms, insurers and card companies and 200 employees at central government ministries, local governments and public institutions, for a total of 400 respondents.

The reports include the status of AX 추진 in finance and the public sector, key challenges, and response strategies to institutional changes such as easing network separation rules and revising AI guidelines. They also include applied AX case studies, including finance AI contact centers (AICC), generative AI platforms, finance-specific AI search, subscription-based AI counselors in the public sector, and building next-generation security systems.

The survey found that 59.5 percent of financial institutions and 30 percent of public institutions have entered AX execution stages such as proof of concept (PoC), applying AI to some tasks, or rolling it out across the organization.

Challenges were also identified. In finance, proving return on investment (ROI) for AI investment and ensuring reliability were cited as key challenges. In the public sector, budgets, performance measurement systems and data linkage were identified as issues to be resolved.

KT classified the level of AX 추진 by industry into categories including "pre-review and interest stage", "PoC and partial operation" and "organization-wide expansion", and presented key challenges and implementation directions for each stage.

For finance, it proposed prioritizing tasks that can show results in a short period, such as repetitive document processing and customer response. It also suggested gradually 추진 measures including ROI measurement systems, securing AI trust, data standardization and building AI governance.

For the public sector, it proposed introducing AI first in low-risk tasks such as document drafting and civil complaint handling, and suggested establishing a system linking performance and budgets. It also cited data standardization, inter-agency linkage and building governance based on explainable AI as key tasks.

Jang Dae-sung (장대성), executive director of KT's Enterprise Strategy Division, said KT has long worked with customers across industries to identify concerns and requirements in the AX adoption process. He said he hopes the AX Insights Report, produced based on customer feedback, will help 추진 AX in the public sector.
