China\'s telecom carriers usher in era of AI token pricing plans
Major Chinese telecom carriers are expanding AI services by introducing \"AI tokens\" as a new billing unit alongside mobile data. China Telecom has rolled out token-based AI plans nationwide for consumers, developers and corporate clients, offering different monthly token allowances. Tokens are the basic unit for processing and generating text, code and data in generative AI. Other carriers are launching similar plans, as China’s daily token calls surge.

Heavy AI token use does not translate into proportionate output, Jellyfish analysis finds
As companies tighten controls on AI spending, heavy use of AI coding tools does not necessarily translate into higher productivity, an analysis showed. Engineering intelligence firm Jellyfish analysed user data for Anthropic\'s Claude Code and found the top 10 percent of developers used about 10 times more AI tokens than mid-level users, but output rose only about twofold. Jellyfish said AI tool adoption can lift productivity, but firms are shifting toward measuring cost efficiency.

Gartner says falling AI token prices won\'t cut corporate AI costs
Even if AI token prices fall sharply, companies\' actual AI cost burdens are unlikely to decline, a forecast said. Gartner said inference costs for 1 trillion-parameter large language models will drop by more than 90 percent by 2030 versus 2025, with up to a 100-fold efficiency gain versus early 2022 models. It said AI agents consume 5 to 30 times more tokens per task than chatbots, outpacing price declines.
