Faster speed, questionable quality: Reviewing AI coding output

Generative AI has sharply reduced the time developers spend writing code, but a survey found it is also increasing review and maintenance burdens as low-quality code enters projects. Respondents estimated coding time fell by an average 52 percent after adopting AI, while maintainers judged 25 percent of incoming pull requests to be low-quality “AI slop.” The Linux Foundation urged stronger governance, clearer contribution rules and better tools.

ArtCraft developer unveils Claude-built apps to replace Excel, Word and PowerPoint

The developer of ArtCraft, an open-source tool set that lets users use Adobe apps for free, has released apps aimed at replacing Microsoft Office, Tom\'s Hardware reported on Oct. 11. Developer Brandon Thomas launched GridCraft, DeckCraft and WordCraft as alternatives to Excel, PowerPoint and Word, built with Anthropic\'s Claude. He posted the apps on the ArtCraft GitHub for free downloads. Critics have questioned the project, while Thomas has defended his coding skills.

Chinese short dramas close in on OTT rivals

Short dramas of about 1 to 3 minutes an episode are emerging as a new rival to online video services. Global short-drama platform ReelShort has already surpassed major OTT services such as Netflix and Disney+ in mobile viewing time. Usage across short-drama apps is rising quickly, and sales are forecast to grow this year. China is expanding production using generative AI, while concerns are growing over addiction, spending and content quality.
