MSIT holds \'AI-Inglass Forum\' to discuss industry-academia-research cooperation

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held the \'AI-Inglass Forum\' in Seoul on Sept. 15 to discuss cooperation among industry, academia and research institutions in preparation for growth in the AI glasses market. About 150 participants attended, including companies, universities and research bodies. The event included keynote speeches, an ETRI strategy presentation and a panel on building an AI glasses ecosystem. It was held under an ETRI-led project running from 2026 to 2030 with 45 billion won in funding.

Meta blocks smart glasses cameras when capture LED is damaged

Meta has blocked the camera function on thousands of smart glasses whose recording indicator light was covered or physically damaged, as concerns grew about covert filming using glasses-style cameras. The company applied a software update that disables cameras on devices found to have manipulated the capture LED, affecting less than 0.1 percent of Meta AI glasses sold. If the LED is physically damaged, the camera is permanently disabled.

Ericsson says 5G SA is core network for AI era, sets out foundation for 6G evolution

Ericsson presented 5G standalone (SA) and 5G Advanced as core foundations for AI-era networks and a pathway toward 6G. Ericsson Korea outlined network evolution, AI-RAN and integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) strategies at a media briefing in Seoul. It expects uplink traffic to rise 3 to 5 times by 2030, driven by physical AI such as AI glasses, robots and autonomous driving. Executives said differentiated connectivity, enabled by 5G SA, will be needed to guarantee service-specific performance.
