Naver is expanding Naver Map's navigation feature to AI glasses.
Naver said on Oct. 12 it will work with Google and Samsung, and with Meta, to offer Naver Map directions on AI glasses. It is the first such case among domestic map services to support navigation linked to AI glasses.
The feature will first be available on Meta's Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta devices. Naver also plans to apply it to Google-Samsung's "intelligent eyewear" due to be released within the year.
Users can receive voice guidance to their destination through AI glasses without checking a smartphone screen. It also provides information needed for walking, including directions of travel and whether stairs or escalators are involved.
Naver Map introduced a feature last June that provides real-time voice guidance for walking routes, and expanded supported devices to AI glasses through this partnership. The feature will be supported first on Android and later applied sequentially to iOS.
Naver will also introduce a voice call function dedicated to AI glasses. Users can request information they need while on the move by voice, such as "tell me the estimated arrival time" and "find a convenience store nearby."
On intelligent eyewear co-developed by Google and Samsung, Naver plans to allow users to launch Naver Map by voice through Gemini and receive navigation guidance.
Naver plans to further expand features that provide information on nearby stores and places by linking AI glasses with local information accumulated in Naver Map.
Naver is also considering features on AI glasses equipped with displays to show an augmented reality-based route, information on nearby stores and place coupons.
Kyunghwa Jung (정경화), a Naver Map leader, said, "Through AI glasses navigation, we will enable users to use navigation and local information while moving without frequently checking a smartphone screen."
