Samsung Electronics develops industry\'s first UFS 5.0, mass production in fourth quarter
Samsung Electronics said on Monday it has developed the industry\'s first UFS 5.0, the latest embedded memory standard from JEDEC, as on-device AI boosts demand for faster storage. The product is based on the company’s ninth-generation V-NAND and supports sequential read speeds of 10.8 GB/s and write speeds of 9.5 GB/s, about double UFS 4.1. Samsung said power efficiency improves by more than 40 percent and mass production will start in the fourth quarter.

Western Digital completes carbon-free energy transition at 5 manufacturing sites
Western Digital is pursuing an energy strategy aimed at sustainability as AI storage demand accelerates, it said on April 23, publishing its FY2025 sustainability report. It said it now runs five manufacturing sites on 100 percent carbon-free energy and raised renewable energy use across global manufacturing to 66 percent. It also reported lower emissions intensity in product use, new supply-chain targets, and progress on recycled materials and rare-earth recovery.

Dinotisia raises 90 billion won in Series A to step up AI storage business
Dinotisia, an AI storage specialist, has raised 90 billion won in Series A funding to expand its vector database and dedicated semiconductor business. Elohim Partners led the round, joined by multiple new institutional investors and follow-on participation from existing backers. The company is developing the Seahorse vector database and a Vector Data Processing Unit chip. It plans to use the funds to upgrade products, prepare VDPU commercialization, expand globally and hire talent, while pursuing an IPO.
