MSIT and Broadcast Media Commission launch AI and media policy council
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Broadcast Media Communications Commission will jointly respond on artificial intelligence, media and digital regulation, aiming to reduce policy gaps as industry boundaries blur. The two agencies launched a policy council in Seoul on Tuesday. Cooperation will cover AI, media and OTT services, and digital regulation and user protection. They also plan to share parts of broadcast video AI training datasets via MSIT\'s AI Hub for research and education.

South Korea will speed up efforts to secure high-quality data to prepare for the artificial intelligence era, building data needed by the private sector and setting up a \"data highway\" linking public and private datasets. The government will expand access to public data, create sector-specific datasets and build \"data spaces\" to promote sharing. It also plans legal and institutional revisions covering personal information, healthcare data and copyrights.

Korea to add 8 non-capital universities to AI hub programme
South Korea will expand support for artificial intelligence talent development at regional universities by adding eight non-capital-area schools to its AI hub university programme this year, the Ministry of Science and ICT said on May 28. The ministry will also push an AI Star Fellowship focused on regional universities to strengthen research capabilities among early-career researchers. Selected universities will receive funding for up to 8 years, while fellowship projects will be supported for up to 6 years.
