Douzone Bizon said on Sept. 21 it has set up a dedicated organisation, the "AI Governance Secretariat", to oversee and manage companywide use of AI based on the international standard ISO/IEC 42001, an AI management system.

The company said the new secretariat is aimed at responding proactively to the "Framework Act on the Development of Artificial Intelligence and the Creation of a Trust-Based Foundation" (AI Basic Act), which took effect in July, and at building a full life-cycle management system spanning AI planning through development, deployment and operations.

Douzone Bizon plans to obtain ISO/IEC 42001 certification as early as early October. It provides multiple products and services that combine not only its own AI but also external AI, and it is simultaneously carrying out roles under the AI Basic Act as both an "AI development business operator" and an "AI use business operator". The company said it has established a governance system built around ISO/IEC 42001 after determining a single control framework is needed to encompass management responsibilities.

The secretariat will be overseen by Douzone Bizon Co-CEO Ji Yong-gu (지용구), who will serve as its head and also chairs the AI Technology Committee, while Executive Vice President Jae-geun Jeong (정재근) will serve as deputy head and lead day-to-day work. Douzone Bizon will also build an integrated platform, "AI HUB", that implements this governance system in stages.

Douzone Bizon plans to begin with establishing the secretariat and setting policies, then proceed to building an inventory and grading risk levels in the fourth quarter, followed by settling monitoring and audit systems in the first quarter next year. It plans to expand the system in stages through the second quarter next year.

Ji said, "The capability to use AI safely and reliably has now become a key factor that determines corporate competitiveness." He added, "With the AI Governance Secretariat at the centre, we will put in place a management system with clear responsibilities and procedures, and create an environment where both customers and employees can use AI with confidence."
