Police form Coupang task force to probe data leak, industrial accident cover-up allegations

Police have formed a task force to conduct a broad investigation into allegations involving Coupang, amid a series of complaints and accusations. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency set up the team on Jan. 1, led by an assistant commissioner-level investigations chief. The 86-member unit draws staff from cyber and other investigative divisions. It will handle a case involving former Coupang CEO Park Dae-joon, while a separate unit will investigate lawmaker Kim Byung-kee.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics CEO Chang Duk-hyun calls 2026 a year of challenge

Samsung Electro-Mechanics will pursue technological advantage in high value-added products, expand automation and improve productivity to strengthen manufacturing competitiveness, CEO Chang Duk-hyun said. The company will also push commercialisation of new businesses such as all-solid-state batteries and glass substrates and drive companywide innovation using AI. Chang outlined strategies by division, including expanding advanced product development for AI servers and vehicle electronics and focusing on high value-added products for servers and AI accelerators.

LS Group chairman Ku Jae-eun calls for financial flexibility, new business stabilisation

LS Group held a 2026 New Year ceremony at its LS Tower in Anyang on Thursday and shared its management direction, the group said. Chairman Ku Jae-eun presented financial flexibility, new business stabilisation and market diversification, and AI-based innovation as key policies for 2026. The group plans investments over the next five years in subsea cables, power equipment and materials, with 7 trillion won in South Korea and 5 trillion won overseas. It also launched the LS Futurist Awards.
