[Digital Today reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] Images and key specifications believed to be of Samsung Electronics' first smart glasses have been leaked.
On April 27 (local time), major foreign media including The Verge reported the product has a design almost identical to Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses, and that it may launch without a display, focusing on camera and audio functions.
The newly revealed product is known by the codename "Jinju." Images show a design similar to Meta's second-generation Ray-Ban smart glasses. The price was discussed as between $379 and $499. That is a similar price range to the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta, which does not have a screen.
The hardware is reported to include a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 processor, a 12-megapixel Sony IMX681 camera, a 155 mAh battery and bone-conduction speakers. The model is also said not to include a built-in display. That has prompted speculation that Samsung Electronics may put more emphasis on wearable capture and audio experiences than on augmented reality display features in its first product.
Samsung Electronics also appears to be preparing a higher-priced follow-on model. The premium product, codenamed "Haean," is expected to use a micro LED display. The launch timing has been discussed as 2027, and the price was suggested as between $600 and $900. The product could form a competitive dynamic with Meta's Ray-Ban lineup that includes displays.
The launch date has not yet been confirmed. The industry is discussing the possibility that Samsung Electronics could announce the product at Google I/O next month. Even if it is not unveiled at Google I/O, the possibility remains that Samsung Electronics could introduce its first smart glasses at an Unpacked event later this year.
Samsung Electronics has already disclosed the direction of its cooperation with Google. After saying in 2025 that it was jointly developing Android XR-based glasses with Google, it also released last year the Galaxy XR headset, the first device to apply Android XR. Earlier this year, it mentioned a plan to launch smart glasses in 2026, but this is the first time the design and detailed specifications have surfaced externally.
This trend also aligns with Google's expansion of the Android XR ecosystem. Google has expanded cooperative relationships not only with Samsung Electronics but also with Warby Parker, Gentle Monster and Gucci. If Samsung Electronics' first smart glasses move into an actual launch, it could become an opportunity for the Android XR camp to enter in earnest a smart-glasses market centered on Meta.
However, what has been confirmed so far is limited to leaked images and unofficial specifications. It remains to be seen in future announcements whether Samsung Electronics will choose a strategy of excluding a display in its first product and matching the price range of Meta's main products, or adjust the timing of its reveal and the product lineup.
