CES 2026 draws 148,000 attendees, largest since pandemic

CES 2026 wrapped up its four-day run in Las Vegas, drawing about 148,000 attendees from around the world, its biggest turnout since the pandemic. The event hosted about 6,900 global media representatives, 4,100 exhibitors and roughly 1,200 startups. Organisers said more than 55,000 attendees came from overseas. The programme included over 400 conference sessions, more than 1,300 speakers and over 200 government officials.

48 countries including UK formally implement CARF crypto tax rules

Forty-eight countries, including the United Kingdom, have formally implemented a new crypto tax regulatory system, the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), from Jan. 1, 2026. Developed under the OECD, CARF is a global tax information standard aimed at preventing tax evasion using crypto and digital assets. In the UK, major exchanges must report users’ transactions and related details to HM Revenue and Customs, with wider automatic sharing from 2027.

Ethereum 2025 year-end: DeFi TVL $99 billion, 9 times No.2 layer-1

Ethereum delivered structural growth in 2025 across DeFi, scalability, institutional adoption and links to real-world assets, according to its official team’s year-end ecosystem report. DeFi total value locked reached $99 billion, more than nine times that of the second-ranked layer-1 blockchain. Annual stablecoin settlement hit $18.8 trillion. Rollup-based throughput reached 5,600 transactions per second and Layer 2 fees fell below $0.01. Institutional ETH holdings exceeded $35 billion and RWA issuance topped $12 billion.
