Kakao compliance and trust committee issues 2025 annual report, introduces investment checklist

Kakao’s Compliance and Trust Committee held its first regular meeting of the year on Jan. 12 and issued its 2025 annual report, covering a year of activities to strengthen compliance management and restore trust. The committee said it focused on upgrading compliance systems among participating affiliates, developed evaluation indicators and conducted its first full-scale assessments. It also introduced an investment checklist and refined rules to help embed key agenda items across the group.

Mgame signs $10 million China service extension deal for Yulgang Online

Mgame has signed a contract extension with Chinese partner Beijing Hoolai Jingwei for the China service of its MMORPG Yulgang Online. The three-year deal runs from March 2026 to March 2029 and is valued at $10 million. The companies have signed nine agreements since the service began in 2005, maintaining a partnership for more than 20 years. Mgame said it will focus on stable operations and enhancing IP value.

South Korea pushes to shorten retailer payment cycles, industry on alert

South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission plans to propose a bill in the first quarter to shorten payment deadlines in large-scale retailing. The changes would cut direct-purchase payment terms to 30 days from 60 and special-contract purchases to 20 days from 40. The move could raise liquidity pressure for retailers including Coupang, Kurly and Daiso, which the regulator cited as paying close to legal deadlines. Industry participants warned of reduced liquidity and potential financing needs.
