LG unveils EXAONE 4.5 multimodal AI model focused on stronger reasoning

LG AI Research on Wednesday unveiled EXAONE 4.5, a multimodal AI model that understands and reasons over text and images. The model is positioned as a preparatory step to expand modalities under the company’s proprietary AI foundation model project, K-EXAONE. LG AI Research said EXAONE 4.5 is strong at reading and reasoning over complex industrial documents and posted benchmark scores exceeding several rival models.

KOSPI falls below 5,800 on Middle East uncertainty; KOSDAQ down over 1 percent

South Korea's KOSPI fell 1.61 percent on April 9, dropping below the 5,800 level amid continued uncertainty in Middle East developments. The benchmark index closed at 5,778.01 after extending losses in the afternoon. Foreign investors were net sellers, while individuals and institutions bought. Most heavyweight stocks declined, including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The KOSDAQ also fell 1.27 percent. The won weakened against the dollar.

Baek Gyeong-hun holds first meeting with heads of three mobile carriers, urges stronger security

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT held talks with the heads of SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus on strengthening security and guaranteeing basic communications rights. Vice Prime Minister Baek Gyeong-hun said repeated hacking incidents made carriers' responsibilities clearer and called for sweeping reforms that the public can feel. The carriers pledged stronger security and safer networks and issued a joint declaration. They also agreed to cooperate on new tariff plans and expand investment in AI and next-generation networks.
