MSIT to hold 2026 ICT R&D project briefing
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation will hold a 2026 ICT R&D project briefing on Jan. 15 at Seoul’s COEX, the ministry said. It will explain the intent and technical requirements of new ICT R&D tasks and provide application information. The 2026 ICT R&D budget totals 1.68 trillion won, up 24.3 percent. New support tasks total 476.6 billion won.

Mamdani says he does not own cryptocurrency, rules out investing in Adams' NYC token
New York Mayor Joran Mamdani said he does not own cryptocurrency and has no plan to invest in the 'NYC token' recently launched by former mayor Eric Adams. Mamdani stressed the project is unrelated to city policy. The token has drawn controversy, including allegations of a liquidity pull and claims of multimillion-dollar investor losses. Mamdani won election with 50.8 percent and has backed stronger consumer protection measures.

Beyond GPUs, new AI-specialized cloud tech firms crowd in
AI-focused cloud startups are continuing to enter the market despite big tech dominance, helped by GPU shortages after ChatGPT. Firms such as CoreWeave, Crusoe and Lambda gained traction by not building their own AI. The Information reports some are pivoting toward large-scale data centre development, while new entrants focus more on tools and software. Cooling specialist Accelsius raised $65 million. Other firms are also raising funding for OpenAI- and Anthropic-related infrastructure.
