South Korea government asks X to add youth safeguards to Grok AI chatbot

South Korea’s Broadcast Media Communications Commission said it has notified X to establish and respond with youth protection measures for its Grok AI chatbot, citing the spread of sexual exploitation material and non-consensual sexual images on social media. The regulator requested safeguards to prevent illegal acts, including limits and management measures on youth access. It also sought additional data on Grok and stressed that making, distributing, possessing or viewing fabricated sexual videos without consent is criminally punishable in South Korea.

KAIST boosts light efficiency of eco-friendly semiconductor from 1 to 18 percent by achieving atomic-level control

KAIST said on Tuesday its materials science team led by professor Himchan Cho developed a way to improve the light-emission efficiency of an eco-friendly nano semiconductor by 18 times. The team controlled the surface of indium phosphide magic-sized nanocrystals at the atomic level, lifting efficiency from under 1 percent to 18.1 percent. The study used a precisely controlled etching strategy and was published online in the Journal of the American Chemical Society on Dec. 16.

SOOP signs three-year media partnership with Korea Association of Athletics Federations

SOOP said it has signed a media partnership with the Korea Association of Athletics Federations and will continue broadcasting athletics content for three years. The company will exclusively broadcast in South Korea all competitions and related content hosted by the federation from 2026 to 2028. The agreement includes live coverage as well as highlight and video-on-demand rights. SOOP also plans to produce original content such as training features and in-depth interviews.
