South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT on Friday held a meeting with experts from industry, academia and research institutes to discuss the domestic impact of cybersecurity projects by global artificial intelligence (AI) firms including Anthropic and OpenAI and possible responses.

Anthropic is providing partners with the Glasswing project based on its latest AI model Mythos. OpenAI is providing partners with the Trusted Access for Cyber project based on GPT-5.5-Cyber.

Earlier, the ministry on April 14 asked about 30,000 companies nationwide, targeting chief information security officers (CISOs), to check their security readiness. On April 30 it also distributed additional guidance titled "Corporate response guidelines and CEO action rules for preparing against AI-based cyberattacks."

Attendees included companies participating in the development of proprietary foundation models such as SKT, Upstage and Motif Technologies, major AI firms, academic experts on AI security including the head of the Korea Institute of Information Security and Cryptology, executives of major information security companies including the head of the Korea Information Security Industry Association, and CISOs from major companies.

Participants agreed that the emergence of high-performance AI-based cybersecurity services means the public and private sectors must jointly prepare long-term response measures. They also stressed the importance of easing information asymmetry by participating in global AI firms' cybersecurity projects, strengthening AI security capabilities and establishing AI security sovereignty.

Bae Kyung-hoon (배경훈), deputy prime minister and minister of science and ICT, said, "Because of this issue, our society can no longer delay a major shift in the information security paradigm toward AI-based security." He added, "We will push to develop AI security-specialised models in Korea while promptly preparing response measures with experts across fields, including spreading the philosophy of zero trust across all sectors of society and establishing fundamental defence systems such as quantum security."
