Revolut applies for banking licence in Peru, targets remittances market
British fintech firm Revolut has applied for a banking licence in Peru to expand in Latin America, Cointelegraph reported. If approved, it would be able to operate as an official bank in Peru, after Mexico, Colombia and Brazil. Revolut is focusing on remittances and cross-border payments, highlighting that about 1,000,000 Peruvians depend on overseas transfers. Peru’s personal remittances totalled $4.93 billion in 2024.

XRP price falls below $2 despite rising ETF demand
XRP has fallen for six consecutive days and dropped below $2, Cointelegraph reported on Jan. 19 local time. The move came as selling spread across markets after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened additional tariffs on European countries over the weekend. The crypto market also weakened, with bitcoin falling to 92,000 and ether dropping below $3,000. XRP long positions worth $39.5 million were liquidated, the biggest since Nov. 22, 2025.

India central bank pushes linking BRICS digital currencies
India's central bank has proposed linking central bank digital currencies among BRICS members to support payments for trade and tourism, Cointelegraph reported, citing Reuters. People familiar with the matter said the proposal is likely to be put on the formal agenda at the BRICS summit to be held in India in 2026. Cointelegraph said approval would mark the first formal talks on CBDC cooperation among the five countries, though discussions are at an early stage.
