Government, mining industry cooperate to stabilise critical minerals supply chain

South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the mining industry agreed to cooperate on stabilising critical minerals supply chains. The ministry said it discussed public-private cooperation at a New Year gathering attended by about 200 key industry figures. The government plans to invest 134.1 billion won this year to localise the supply chain and support resource development, stockpiling and R&D. It will also spend more than 10 billion won to improve mine safety.

South Korea's industry ministry to finalise third materials, parts and equipment specialised zone in June

South Korea has begun procedures to select a third specialised zone for materials, parts and equipment. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a briefing in Cheongju on Jan. 13 attended by about 200 people from local governments, anchor firms and research institutes. The government will open applications in March and confirm the final site around June through a competitiveness committee. A preliminary review system will be introduced for the first time.
