KT contract-fee waiver sees 52,661 customers leave in four days, 71 percent to SKT

More than 50,000 customers left KT over four days from Dec. 31 to Jan. 3 after the company began waiving cancellation fees, the telecoms industry said. A total of 52,661 users switched away, with 71 percent moving to SK Telecom among the three major carriers. On Jan. 3, departures hit 21,027, including 13,616 to SKT, 5,467 to LG Uplus and 1,944 to budget operators.

Baek Kyung-hoon says Upstage controversy can nourish South Korea's AI ambitions

Deputy Prime Minister Baek Kyung-hoon, who also serves as science and ICT minister, said allegations and public verification involving Upstage amounted to a healthy self-correcting process in South Korea’s AI ecosystem. He said innovation becomes stronger through transparent scrutiny and that an active public forum would help South Korean AI win global trust. The ministry is evaluating five teams in an independent foundation model project through Jan. 15.

Naver search share hits 63 percent, reclaims 60 percent level after 3 years

Naver held a dominant lead in South Korea’s search market in 2025 with an average share of 62.86 percent, up 4.72 percentage points from 2024 and back above 60 percent for the first time in three years, InternetTrend data showed. Google’s share fell to 29.55 percent. Bing ranked third at 3.12 percent and Daum fourth at 2.94 percent.
