Law firm B&H and the Legal Safety Institute signed a memorandum of understanding on July 1 to build a dispute-resolution system based on scientific and objective appraisals.

The two sides agreed to minimise wasteful arguments over facts through scientific appraisal procedures and to present solutions in advance for new types of incidents and accidents. They plan to build up dispute-resolution cases together across areas including traffic accidents, product liability and facility safety accidents, centred on an arbitration and mediation centre.

Han Tae-hwa (한태화), managing partner at B&H, said he often saw victims feel wronged while investigating industrial accident cases as a prosecutor because the cause of an accident was not properly identified. He said the firm would become legal support victims can truly rely on, based on accurate scientific appraisals.

Park Sung-ji (박성지), an engineering appraisal expert who has handled case analysis for SBS' "Unanswered Questions" and other programmes, said the outcome of court disputes ultimately depends on how accurately the cause of an accident is identified. Park said he would join forces with B&H so there are no wronged citizens.

The Legal Safety Institute has experts from the National Forensic Service and court-appointed specialist appraisers and has capabilities to identify accident causes using advanced simulation techniques such as PC-Crash and Madimo. Law firm B&H has lawyers with backgrounds at courts and prosecutors' offices and specialist advisers in construction, real estate and arbitration and mediation, and it is expected that its "one-stop" service system covering everything from identifying accident causes to legal relief will be further strengthened.
