KT to provide 450 billion won compensation for unauthorised micropayments, excluding bill discounts

KT excluded bill discounts from its compensation plan for an unauthorised micropayments incident, saying it prioritised practical, longer-term benefits. It will waive early termination fees for certain mobile subscribers and offer data, roaming discounts and other perks, valuing the programme at 450 billion won excluding waivers. KT said 22,227 customers had personal data leaked and 368 suffered financial losses. It also launched a security innovation task force and outlined 1 trillion won of security investment over five years.

On-chain perpetual futures lead crypto derivatives market

On-chain perpetual futures are quickly dominating the cryptocurrency derivatives market, Cointelegraph reported on Dec. 29. Invaise researcher David Duong wrote on X that as a traditional altcoin season has faded, investors have turned from spot trading to leveraged perpetual futures. He said the structure, which allows high exposure with small capital, drew interest. On-chain platforms such as Aster and Hyperliquid led a surge in trading volumes, with Hyperliquid reaching $319 billion in July.

Big Tech to debut crypto wallets in 2026; fintech-led layer 1 will fail

Cointelegraph reported on Dec. 30, citing Dragonfly managing partner Hasib Qureshi, that Big Tech companies will introduce crypto wallets in 2026 and Fortune 100 firms will build their own blockchains. Qureshi expects financial and fintech firms to use tools such as Avalanche, OP Stack, Orbit and ZK Stack to create more private, permissioned networks while retaining public-chain connectivity. He said fintech-led layer 1 launches will fail and AI agents will not transact meaningful sums in 2026.
