Big Techs step up AI M&A push, from chips to agents
Big Tech companies are increasingly acquiring AI startups across chips, large language models and applications. Nvidia is effectively buying Groq assets for $20 billion and is also in advanced talks to acquire AI21 Labs for up to $2 to $3 billion, after purchasing SchedMD. Meta has acquired Singapore AI startup Manus. SoftBank plans to buy DigitalBridge for $4.04 billion and has completed a $40 billion OpenAI investment. Apple, Naver Cloud and Korean startups also announced AI-related moves.

Naver, Kakao-backed K-startups head to CES 2026 in global test
Startups backed by Naver and Kakao will take part in CES 2026 in Las Vegas from Jan. 6 to 9, with 16 teams attending through Naver D2SF and Kakao Ventures. Six teams have won CES innovation awards. Naver D2SF is sending nine teams focused on infrastructure and AI, while Kakao Ventures is backing seven companies with solutions in digital healthcare, logistics, XR and manufacturing.

The start of the DDR5 memory era is expected to boost Samsung Electro-Mechanics, which has high-voltage MLCC production capabilities, as DDR5 module redesigns raise rated-voltage requirements to 25 volts. Industry expectations also reflect AI infrastructure expansion and growing AI server MLCC demand. Brokerages forecast record 2026 results, citing higher-value products, a continued duopoly with Japan's Murata, and growth in FC-BGA and industrial and automotive MLCC sales.
