Bamisimwi moves to improve fast-track review procedures after 'targeted review' controversy

The Korea Broadcast Media and Communications Review Committee has revised its fast-track review procedures to prevent a повтор of controversies over so-called targeted reviews and alleged gagging. It said it enacted and put into effect new basic rules and rules on subcommittee composition and operation on Aug. 31. Under the new rules, fast-track reviews require a proposal by a subcommittee member and consent from a majority of those present, and must be decided in an open meeting.

Banks launch pilot credit evaluation for small merchants, offering preferential loan limits and rates

Small merchants with strong future growth potential will be able to receive preferential treatment in bank loan screening, including loan limits and interest rates. The Financial Services Commission said on Sept. 2 that eight banks began a pilot programme on Aug. 31 for a small-merchant specialised credit evaluation model, or SCB. The AI-based approach uses non-financial data to assess growth potential.

South Korea’s three mobile carriers activate network plan for Yeouido fireworks festival, AI to handle overloads

South Korea’s three mobile carriers will activate special network measures ahead of a fireworks festival in Seoul’s Yeouido area on Sept. 5 to cope with large crowds and a surge in traffic. SK Telecom plans AI-based traffic forecasting and added fixed and temporary facilities, including mobile base stations. KT will expand nearby base station capacity, deploy mobile stations and use 5G network slicing to support CCTV feeds, while running a 24-hour response system. LG Uplus will add equipment and use its AI platform to manage overloads.
