[DigitalToday reporter Dae-geon Seok] Mobility app Whistle is starting a parking and stopping enforcement alert service in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province. Whistle said on Oct. 20 that Gwangmyeong residents and visitors will be able to receive advance alerts shortly before enforcement by CCTV cameras covered by the service.
With a single sign-up, Whistle provides parking and stopping enforcement alerts at affiliated regions nationwide all at once. The service helps drivers recognise an enforcement zone and move their vehicles, and there is no fee to use it. Areas that newly introduce the service are also connected automatically without a separate application, the company said.
Users can download Whistle from Google Play Store or Apple App Store, complete sign-up and register vehicle information. Once registration is finished, they can receive alerts in affiliated regions, including Gwangmyeong.
Gwangmyeong has tourism and leisure spaces and shopping facilities clustered together. Gwangmyeong Cave is a major tourist destination in the Seoul metropolitan area and has been selected for five consecutive terms for the "2025-2026 Korea Tourism 100" chosen by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization. The area also has the Dodeoksan suspension bridge, IKEA and Lotte Mall. IKEA Gwangmyeong opened in 2014 as IKEA's first store in South Korea. Whistle expects the rollout to improve parking and stopping convenience for both Gwangmyeong residents and drivers from outside the city.
Whistle CEO Hae-jun Jeong (정해준) said, "The strength of Whistle's integrated service is reducing the inconvenience of drivers having to find and sign up for different parking and stopping enforcement alert services in each region." He said, "We will continue to expand affiliated regions so drivers can use parking and stopping enforcement alerts conveniently nationwide with a single app."
