Samsung Electronics' chip unit makes up 99.7 percent of company operating profit
Samsung Electronics posted a 52 percent operating profit margin in the second quarter of 2026, up 9 percentage points from the previous quarter. It said revenue rose to 171.5 trillion won and operating profit to 89.5 trillion won, both record highs. The DS semiconductor unit accounted for 99.7 percent of operating profit. The company cited higher memory prices, increased shipments and a currency impact, while R&D and facility investment also climbed.

Samsung memory to lock in future results with contracts, not market cycle
Samsung Electronics plans to tie 60 to 70 percent of its memory production capacity to multi-year supply contracts, aiming to shift the business from cycle-driven volatility to an order-based structure. It has completed deals with five global data centre customers and is close to finishing talks with five more large customers linked to AI demand. The company is using rolling five-year contracts with prepayments and expects tight supply through 2028.

Samsung SDS says second-quarter cloud revenue rises 17 percent, external business up 75 percent
Samsung SDS on Wednesday reported preliminary second-quarter revenue of 3.72 trillion won and operating profit of 231.8 billion won. Revenue rose 5.9 percent from a year earlier and operating profit increased 0.7 percent. IT services revenue rose 5 percent to 1.76 trillion won, with cloud revenue up 17 percent to 779.4 billion won. External cloud business revenue climbed 75 percent.
