Nationwide AI competition launches with 3 billion won in prizes, aims for 2 million participants
South Korea has launched a nationwide artificial intelligence competition aimed at letting anyone experience AI and build practical skills. The event offers 3 billion won in total prizes and will run from April to November, targeting more than 2 million participants. Programs are tailored for the general public, students, university researchers and vulnerable groups. The government plans to link domestic firms’ AI services throughout and support jobs and startups for top performers.

FSC to expand direct investment from 15 trillion won for National Growth Fund
South Korea's Financial Services Commission said it will actively support the National Growth Fund by expanding its direct investment beyond 15 trillion won depending on demand. Vice Chairman Kwon Dae-young (권대영) said the fund's support for the venture and innovation ecosystem will differ completely from existing venture and policy finance. The commission also plans 35 trillion won in indirect investments through multiple funds and aims to strengthen manager selection and evaluation.

KOSDAQ listings average 88 a year over 5 years; technology special-case accounts for 39 percent
Companies listed on South Korea's KOSDAQ over the past five years averaged 88 a year, and about 39 percent were technology special-case listings, a Korea Exchange official said on March 26. The share of new listings under the scheme has been rising, with 42 in 2024, a record high, he said. Financial authorities plan to expand tailored technology special-case listings to additional fields this year.
