U.S. SEC sets 2027 exam priorities, flags AI superintelligence and tokenisation risks

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has added AI superintelligence and tokenisation to its examination priorities for fiscal 2027, expanding its review of technology risks in capital markets. The SEC’s Division of Examinations said it will assess how AI tools used by registered firms affect compliance programmes and fraud detection. It also listed risks tied to evolving market infrastructure, including tokenisation and related developments. The priorities apply to more than 34,000 registered entities.

Apple iPhone Duo teardown raises suspicions about hinge

A teardown of Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, suggests early display failures may be tied to the hinge’s internal structure. Repair specialist iFixit said damage reports could be linked to where a cable passage meets the central hinge support. It built a 3D hinge model using CT scans, teardown video and Apple patents and outlined several possible causes, while saying it could not confirm a direct cause from the analysis alone.

Toss FacePay reaches 9 million users, offers 20 percent rewards through year-end

Toss will run a promotion through the end of this year to encourage wider use of its facial recognition payment service, FacePay. Operator Viva Republica said it will expand payment benefits for FacePay users. FacePay allows payments using facial recognition without taking out a wallet or mobile phone, and has 9 million users as of this month. Eligible customers can earn 20 percent rewards for 30 days, with daily and total caps, alongside separate offers at selected merchants.
