Govt seeks remote update after lawmakers warn of LGU+ subscriber number exposure risk

South Korea's government is pursuing automatic remote updates alongside USIM replacements after concerns that LGU+'s International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) directly contains subscriber phone numbers, raising privacy exposure risks. Lawmaker Cho Kyung-tae said LGU+ differs from SK Telecom and KT in how it generates IMSI and said only about 30 percent of users have replaced USIM cards. Vice Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon said the remote update is due to start on Oct. 20.

Baek Kyung-hoon says AI kill switch needed to counter cyber threats with frontier AI

South Korea plans to prepare control mechanisms such as a so-called "kill switch" to guard against AI acting uncontrollably, and to build a safety and trust framework using AI models to counter external cyber threats. Deputy Prime Minister and Science Minister Baek Kyung-hoon said AI does not stop once given a mission and needs human control tools. Bitcoin golden cross reignites, faces test above $87,354

U.S. employment data missed expectations and shifted rate outlooks, while spot bitcoin ETFs logged $189.84 million in daily net inflows. Traders are watching whether bitcoin can break resistance.
