Democratic Party hails KOSPI 5,000 breakthrough, vows follow-up laws

South Korea's Democratic Party on Wednesday celebrated the KOSPI’s first-ever break above 5,000 and said it would step up follow-up legislation, including a third revision to the Commercial Act. Floor leader Han Byung-do called it a record 46 years after the index’s launch. Party officials vowed tougher punishment for stock manipulation, mandatory treasury share cancellation and investor-friendly systems, while also voicing concern about the won’s continued rise in the exchange rate.
