NIPA, Seodaemun Urban Management Corp tie up to promote hologram industry and spread technology

National IT Industry Promotion Agency and the Seodaemun District Urban Management Corporation signed a business agreement on Jan. 23 in Seoul to promote the hologram industry and support technology adoption and diffusion. They agreed to jointly plan and produce hologram content, run demonstrations and experience programs at Seodaemun Prison History Hall, and hold special events tied to major commemorations such as Liberation Day. They will continue discussions on concrete measures to advance the domestic stereoscopic video industry.

Beyond HBM, HBF gains attention as Samsung and Sandisk push expansion

High-bandwidth memory (HBM) has played a key role in AI accelerators, but interest is growing in high-bandwidth flash (HBF) as capacity constraints emerge. TechRadar reported that HBM is fast but limited in capacity, while HBF offers larger capacity at slower speeds. Samsung Electronics and Sandisk plan to integrate HBF into Nvidia, AMD and Google AI products within 24 months. SK Hynix is preparing a prototype, and Kioxia is developing a 5TB HBF module.

Lego develops custom wireless charging system for smart bricks

Lego has unveiled a proprietary wireless charging system for its smart bricks, TechRadar reported on Jan. 23. The smart brick is a core element of Lego’s smart play system and is designed to be charged even when assembled. A Lego executive said the approach aims to maintain the play experience. The current Lego smart play Star Wars set includes a first-generation wireless charger that can charge up to 2 smart bricks at the same time.
