Google settles voice assistant eavesdropping lawsuit for $68 million
Google has agreed to pay $68 million to settle a lawsuit alleging its voice assistant illegally recorded users’ conversations and used them for advertising, TechCrunch reported on Tuesday. Google agreed to the class-action settlement payment but did not admit any illegal conduct, TechCrunch said. Plaintiffs alleged Google recorded conversations without user consent and provided them to third parties. The suit also cited recordings triggered by “false activation.”

Edenlux to tap U.S. market with Eyeary vision recovery wellness device
South Korean company Edenlux is set to introduce Eyeary, a wellness device aimed at helping address vision decline linked to smartphone use, in the U.S. market. TechCrunch reported the company will launch the product through an Indiegogo campaign as it pursues global expansion. Edenlux said its first product, O2Us, posted cumulative sales of $10 million after launches across several Asian markets.

On-device AI has big potential in law, Spotted Draft raises funding from Qualcomm
Spotted Draft has raised $8 million from Qualcomm Ventures and will expand its on-device contract review technology, TechCrunch reported. The investment values the company at $380 million, nearly double its valuation after a $56 million Series B round last year. It developed a VerifAI workflow designed to run contract review locally on laptops using Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite. The company plans to expand across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India.
