Apple will unveil iOS 27 on June 8 at WWDC 2026, local time.
A report by IT outlet 9to5Mac on April 2 cited changes beyond Siri, including Liquid Glass UI adjustment features, an overhaul of default apps and functions for a foldable iPhone expected to be introduced this fall.
The first is additional changes to the Liquid Glass design. The report said iOS 27 could include a new slider that lets users adjust the Liquid Glass effect to their preference. Currently, the related slider is available only for the lock-screen clock, and the change would extend it to various UI elements. The outlet also reported speculation that Apple had wanted to ship such a slider last year but was not ready in time.
Bloomberg also expected some interface adjustments in iOS 27. Specific items were not known, but it said Apple’s approach after adopting a large design language is to repeatedly refine details, and usability improvements could follow as Liquid Glass enters a settling phase.
The second pillar is an overhaul of default system apps. In particular, expectations have resurfaced that Apple’s Calendar app could be a target for a “major overhaul.” The outlet noted that Mark Gurman had forecast a substantial Calendar update in June last year and pointed out that system app updates have accompanied major iOS version upgrades.
Possible changes were also mentioned for Safari and the Photos app, but details of what features might be added or removed have not been confirmed at this stage. Still, attention is focused on the possibility that, separate from iOS 27’s AI and Siri, a reworking of frequently used default apps could widen the perceived changes.
The third is multitasking-related changes aimed at a foldable iPhone. The report said iOS 27 is expected to include custom-designed functions tailored to the “iPhone Fold,” which is expected to be introduced this fall. Gurman, writing for Bloomberg, expected iOS 27 to be introduced and formally released in September, but he viewed it as unlikely that WWDC would reveal a large set of detailed multitasking features. He expected that while some hints of foldable-related changes could appear at WWDC, the full plan for iOS 27 would emerge at a fall event.
The outlet said a key point to watch is Apple’s strategic “division of labor.” While Siri and AI may appear to be the headline features of iOS 27, it said Apple could also work in parallel to improve the completeness of its Liquid Glass design language, overhaul default apps and adapt the operating system to a new hardware form factor in a foldable device.
