LG Uplus said on Thursday it will fully revamp its in-house “Sharing Mileage” scheme to expand employees’ voluntary participation in social contribution. It said it will upgrade the participation methods and the system for using the programme.

Introduced in 2017, Sharing Mileage is a social contribution scheme that awards mileage points for employees’ volunteering and donation activities. Employees can exchange the points for environmental, social and governance (ESG) goods or convert them into donations. LG Uplus said the revamp focuses on clarifying the standards for earning mileage and expanding the scope of employee participation.

Sharing Mileage accrues 5M for taking part in regular donation activities, 7M for participating in one-off campaigns, and 3M for participating in offline volunteer work. Employees can exchange accumulated mileage for eco-friendly goods with ESG value or convert it into donations. Exchangeable goods include tumblers, chargers and ESG Muner key rings, among other ESG-related products. Those who do not want an exchange can choose to accumulate donations, which are donated at 100 won per 1M.

LG Uplus said the revamp in particular strengthens the donation conversion function so employees can join in giving more easily. It described the change as developing the scheme from “giving by collecting” to “giving by acting immediately” by improving access to participation in donations.

LG Uplus said it plans to develop Sharing Mileage beyond a simple in-house welfare benefit into an ESG practice platform where employees can grow as agents creating social value. It said it will continue to increase the programme’s usability and raise employee satisfaction by expanding volunteer opportunities, linking with in-house ESG programmes and diversifying donation recipients.

Myung-seop Lee (이명섭), head of LG Uplus’ CSR Innovation Team, said the revamp created an environment where employees can naturally practise giving in their daily lives. He said the company will continue ESG activities based on employee participation to spread positive value to customers and society.
