BDACS CSO Kim Tak-jong says won stablecoin should target payment areas previously hard to reach

Digital asset infrastructure company BDACS held a Korea Blockchain Week 2026 side event with Circle, Kyobo Life Insurance and SBI Holdings. Participants from financial institutions and the digital asset industry discussed directions for developing stablecoin-based financial infrastructure. BDACS presented use cases for a won stablecoin and demonstrated an onchain exchange of KRW1 and USDC in a testnet environment using Circle’s StableFX program.

NHN KCP demonstrates won stablecoin payments and settlement, tests commercial use

NHN KCP unveiled a payment infrastructure that links the full process from payment to transaction confirmation, merchant management and settlement, assuming a won-denominated stablecoin. The company said it demonstrated stablecoin-based payment and settlement technology at Korea Blockchain Week 2026 (KBW2026) held in Seoul from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1. It used its own payment-focused mainnet, recording payment data in about 0.5 seconds and reflecting it in a digital wallet within about 1 second.

Stablecoins post 18 months of net outflows abroad, totaling 10.4 billion dollars

Stablecoins have recorded net outflows from South Korea for 18 straight months, with cumulative net outflows totaling $10.4 billion, or about 14 trillion won, an analysis showed. The report attributed the flow to the absence of a won-based stablecoin, saying local investors use dollar stablecoins as a substitute for trading and fund transfers in global digital asset markets. It said liquidity would be sufficient if a won stablecoin is introduced, but institutionalisation remains unresolved.
