Korea commission steps up response to false manipulated information, boosts platform accountability
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media and Communications Commission plans to upgrade its response system to false and manipulated information under a revised information network law. It will push to strengthen accountability for large platforms and seek to set up a transparency centre to support fact-checking. The commission also plans to introduce labelling for online AI-generated content and raise transparency around recommendation algorithms. It is reviewing measures to regulate youth SNS use and preparing pay-TV regulatory changes and other media policy steps.

Bamitoongwi appoints, nominates 9 Democratic Party picks as public broadcaster directors
The Broadcasting Media Communications Commission approved the nomination and appointment of nine public broadcaster directors recommended by the Democratic Party. It decided to nominate four directors for KBS and appoint two directors to the Foundation for Broadcast Culture and three directors to EBS. The commission postponed a decision on one Foundation for Broadcast Culture nominee pending completion of fact-checking. It urged other nominating bodies to submit remaining recommendations promptly.

Kim Jong-cheol says media development committee push a key task
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Communications Commission will push ahead with setting up a Media Development Committee under the prime minister, chairman Kim Jong-cheol said. He called it the starting point for a major shift in media policy and a key task for the second half of the year. The panel will pursue regulatory reforms, support overseas expansion and introduce AI across broadcasting and media. The regulator also outlined plans on promotion policies and responses to key regulatory issues.
