Baek Kyung-hoon says now is physical AI golden time, pushes cross-ministry AIDC task force

Science and ICT Minister Baek Kyung-hoon said the race to secure a general-purpose physical AI platform has entered a full-scale phase. The ministry plans to expand AIDC capacity to 8.4 GW by 2029 and 18.4 GW by 2035, backed by up to 1,000 trillion won in phases.

Govt applies moving-target approach to R&D for three major mega physical AI projects

South Korea\'s government will apply a \"moving target\" approach to a 1.4 trillion won physical AI research and development programme, seeking proposals from the contest stage on how teams will detect technological change and adjust plans, participants and budgets if needed. The Jeonbuk and South Gyeongnam projects run from 2026 to 2030 and aim to build a Korean reference model for autonomous factories operated by AI, with an emphasis on data pipelines and integrated factory operation systems.
