SK Telecom said on Sunday it held the 'Grandata Public Day 2026' seminar on Sept. 18 at its SKT Tower in Euljiro, Jung-gu, Seoul, to introduce AI and big data use cases in the public sector.

The seminar shared practical technologies needed to upgrade public institutions' internal work and improve services for the public by using AI and data. About 250 officials who use data in the public sector, including central government, local governments and public corporations, attended.

Grandata is an alliance launched by SKT in 2021 to support data-driven decision-making in the public and private sectors. It is currently collaborating with partners including SKT, Shinhan Card, KCB, Kakao Mobility and SK Broadband.

In the first session, the seminar introduced smart public administration cases based on AI and big data. It also presented a way to analyse visitor data from cultural, sports and tourism events based on local government cases, and propose customised recommendation programmes that reflect success factors from similar events.

It also shared examples of local governments' data disclosure portals. The approach provides policy information and supports the use of public data based on conversational prompts. Users can search and analyse open data and check policies by sector on a conversational screen.

The second session covered AI technologies for using public data and directions for internal innovation. In a case involving Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, the seminar introduced a plan that used no-code and vibe coding to support the use of telecoms and card big data in line with authority and procedures. A Busan Metropolitan City case presented directions for applying pseudonymised information and AI-based synthetic data generation technology.

Myung-kook Kim (김명국), who is in charge of industrial AI at SKT, said, "We will continue to present ways to support data use and work innovation in the public sector."
