Microsoft joins AI race with in-house models, bets on very low prices

Microsoft unveiled its in-house AI coding model, MAI-Code-1-Flash, at its annual Build developer conference in San Francisco. The model generates application and website source code from text descriptions and can be used in GitHub Copilot and Visual Studio Code. Microsoft also introduced the reasoning model MAI-Thinking-1, which it described as a mid-sized model with lower token costs. MAI-Thinking-1 will be offered in private preview through Microsoft Foundry.
