KOSPI sets above 6,600 for first time, closes at record high for second straight day
South Korea\'s KOSPI closed at a record high on April 28, settling above the 6,600 level for the first time on a closing basis. The index ended up 25.99 points, or 0.39 percent, at 6,641.02, marking a second straight day of gains. Institutions were net buyers, while individuals and foreigners sold. The Kosdaq ended lower. The won strengthened against the U.S. dollar.

PIPC holds briefing on guidelines for writing privacy policies, shares revisions
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission held a briefing on April 28 to share key points of the revised guidelines for writing privacy policies it released on April 24. The commission also provided guidance on updated privacy policy guidelines, standards for handling pseudonymised data and personal data processing in generative AI services. It said the event focused on helping people better understand how their data is handled and supporting on-site application of the new standards.

Meta to tap space solar power to secure round-the-clock electricity for data centres
Meta will invest in space-based solar power transmission technology to secure night-time electricity for its data centres. It signed a power capacity reservation agreement of up to 1 gigawatt with startup Overview Energy, its first major demand contract. Meta data centres used more than 18,000 gigawatt hours of electricity in 2024. Overview Energy plans to collect solar energy via satellites and send it as near-infrared beams to ground solar plants.
