Disney hires Character.AI CEO Anand as its first CTO, boosting shift into a tech company

Disney has hired Character.AI Chief Executive Karan Deep Anand as its first chief technology officer, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sept. 18. The report said Disney, under CEO Josh D\'Amaro, is actively working to strengthen its digital competitiveness. Anand previously held executive roles at Meta and Microsoft and became CEO of Character.AI in June 2025. Disney said he will modernise how the company builds and delivers technology.
