Tesla, Rivian and GM keep Apple CarPlay at bay. What drives their stance

Tesla, Rivian and General Motors are cited as major automakers that still do not support Apple’s in-car interface CarPlay. All three maintain positions that exclude or limit CarPlay, emphasising their own vehicle software strategies. Tesla has not officially supported CarPlay, though reports have suggested development work. Rivian executives have repeatedly said there are no plans to add it. Apple releases iOS 26.6, focuses on security and preparing for iOS 27

Apple has released version 26.6 of its operating systems for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV. The update focuses on security fixes, bug repairs and groundwork for iOS 27 and macOS 27 expected this fall, rather than major new features. Apple said it is optimising the Spotlight index to prepare for iOS 27. The release also adds an alert when blocked contacts hit the limit and includes extensive security updates, including more than 150 items for macOS 26.6.

Apple may lock iPhones in arrears, signs of \'Restricted Mode\' in iOS 27

Apple is said to be preparing a feature in iOS 27 that would restrict the use of iPhones with overdue instalment or lease payments. Code in the iOS 27 beta is reported to include a \'Restricted Mode\' and a system enabling finance firms to control device use, potentially blocking most apps and preventing resets or resale. Some core apps could remain available, while subscriptions may continue to be billed.
