Apple is strengthening the Notes app in iOS 27. IT outlet 9to5Mac reported on Sept. 28 that the update includes adding divider lines, support for section links, expanded Siri AI integration, improved Markdown processing and a UI redesign.

The newly added divider line feature can be used to split note content into sections. Users can tap where they want to insert a line and select "Insert Divider Line" in the edit menu.

Navigation for long notes has also been enhanced. Users can select text and choose "Link to Section" under "Add Link" in the edit menu to create a link that jumps directly to a heading or subheading within the current note. It can be used to create a table of contents in long notes or move quickly to needed sections.

Siri AI integration has also been expanded. Users can create a new note or add content to an existing note through the new Siri AI. They can insert Siri's answers directly into a note and ask it to reorganise an unformatted list and then add it to a new note. Siri previously supported some Notes functions, but it will now allow users to specify a particular note and append content.

Markdown support has also been broadened. Apple Notes added Markdown import and export in iOS 26, and in iOS 27 it automatically converts pasted Markdown-formatted text into formatted text without additional steps. A "Copy as Markdown" option for copying text in a note as Markdown is also added to the edit menu.

In addition, as the Image Playground app and its underlying AI model are updated, related improvements will be reflected in Notes as well. The UI will also change in part. The app icon is updated, and Liquid Glass is applied to buttons and menus. Shared folders will appear at the top of the folder list with a new icon, and the icons for individual shared folders and shared notes will also change.
