Musk\'s X reaches settlement with World Federation of Advertisers, ending ad boycott dispute
Elon Musk-led X has settled a long-running legal dispute with the World Federation of Advertisers, ending a fight over an alleged organised advertising boycott. The two sides agreed to close litigation related to the Global Alliance for Responsible Media and reset their relationship. X had sued in 2024, saying the WFA led an illegal boycott that hurt ad revenue after Musk bought Twitter. The debate over free speech and brand safety is expected to continue.

BMCSC to step up monitoring of online discrimination and hate speech
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Standards Commission plans a broad response to online discriminatory and hate speech, including stronger monitoring and reviews, encouragement of self-regulation by internet platform operators, and expanded media ethics education for youths. An amended Information and Communications Network Act taking effect on July 7 defines as illegal information content that incites violence or discrimination or seriously fuels hatred on specified grounds. The commission said it will act quickly on such content.

BAMTT approves enforcement decree for Information Network Act; up to 1 billion won fine for spreading fake news
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission (BAMTT) approved revisions to the enforcement decree of the Information and Communications Network Act and a related public notice to prevent the spread of false and manipulated information and strengthen digital platforms\' social responsibility. The rules take effect on July 7. The scope covers user-to-user information intermediary services such as SNS and online communities, while search services and open marketplaces were excluded from the final draft. The decree also specifies criteria for punitive damages and administrative fines.
