Amazon has added a new personality style, 'Sassy', to its Alexa Plus artificial intelligence assistant, TechCrunch reported on March 12 local time.

Amazon said the feature is available only to adults and requires additional security verification in the Alexa app.

Sassy is the fourth personality option after Brief, Chill and Sweet. The first three styles were unveiled last month.

When users enable Sassy in the Alexa app, a warning message appears saying the style includes blunt expressions. The security verification method varies by device, and iPhones verify identity through Face ID. Devices with Amazon Kids enabled cannot use the Sassy style.

Alexa described the Sassy style as a way of answering questions while adding wit and appropriate barbs. It said the style delivers realistic advice in an appealing way, puts a sting in compliments and also has unexpected warmth.

Still, the adults-only positioning of the Sassy style does not mean it is headed in the same direction as adults-only AI companion services such as Grok. Amazon drew the line, saying it does not allow sexually explicit content, hate speech, illegal activity, personal attacks or content that induces self-harm, even in the Sassy style.
