U.S. SEC sets 2027 exam priorities, flags AI superintelligence and tokenisation risks

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has added AI superintelligence and tokenisation to its examination priorities for fiscal 2027, expanding its review of technology risks in capital markets. The SEC’s Division of Examinations said it will assess how AI tools used by registered firms affect compliance programmes and fraud detection. It also listed risks tied to evolving market infrastructure, including tokenisation and related developments. The priorities apply to more than 34,000 registered entities.

AI data centres revive HDDs as Toshiba invests 60 billion yen in Philippines

Toshiba will expand its HDD production facilities in the Philippines as demand for large-capacity storage surges with the expansion of AI data centres. The company plans to invest about 60 billion yen and aims to nearly double annual production capacity for AI and cloud HDDs by fiscal 2027, compared with fiscal 2025 on a storage-capacity basis. Toshiba also plans higher-capacity products and broader automation to cut staffing needs and raise yields.

Honda to test wireless charging road on Japanese expressway

Honda will conduct a demonstration of dynamic wireless power transfer technology that supplies electricity to electric vehicles while they are driving on a Japanese expressway. Its R&D unit and partners developed a magnetic coupling system that sends power from devices embedded in the road to receivers under a vehicle. From fiscal 2027, a public road test will run on a 300-metre stretch near the Kimitsu rest area on the E14 Tateyama Expressway in Chiba.
