Lawson to test stablecoin payments at convenience stores with JPYC from August

Japan\'s convenience store chain Lawson will introduce payments using yen-pegged stablecoin JPYC at stores from August. A pilot is set for early August at a Lawson store operated by telecoms company KDDI, using a smartphone wallet barcode scanned by a POS terminal. Lawson plans to check POS integration and payment time. KDDI has a capital and business tie-up with wallet firm HashPort, which supports the trial.

The upgrade applies a next-generation interface supporting fiber-optic connections and gigabit-class data transfer and is expected to improve data exchange with precision-guided weapons. Budget documents cite higher payload requirements, with a new pylon designed for up to 20,000 pounds of conventional or nuclear weapons.

Japan\'s JCB pushes hands-free UWB bus fare payments for 2028 rollout

Japan\'s JCB, Resona Holdings and Odawara Device will introduce an ultra-wideband (UWB)-based payment service that lets bus passengers pay fares without taking out their smartphones. The three companies signed an MOU to jointly develop and test the service, targeting commercial rollout in 2028. Technology verification will begin in 2026, followed by limited commercial services on 일부 routes in 2027. The project also includes work to develop standards linking bus fare systems with UWB technology.
