KakaoBank to cancel 51% of treasury shares, use remainder for employee compensation
KakaoBank will cancel 270,000 of its treasury shares, or about half of the total it holds, within the legal deadline to enhance shareholder value, it said on Aug. 17. As of June 30, the company held 532,334 treasury shares, with the planned cancellation accounting for about 51 percent. The remaining 262,334 shares will be used for employee compensation. KakaoBank plans to seek shareholder approval in 2027 for a detailed holding and disposal plan.

Hecto Financial posted record first-half sales and operating profit on the back of growth in its payment services and cross-border settlement business. The company said preliminary consolidated revenue rose 18.9 percent to 107.6 billion won and operating profit jumped 83.5 percent to 13.7 billion won. Second-quarter sales and profit rose from a year earlier but fell from the previous quarter, which the company attributed to temporary service adjustments for some merchants.

NYSE-listed AI firm Vida Global pays part of salaries in bitcoin, keeps books in dollars
Vida Global, an AI operating system company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, has introduced a system that lets employees receive part of their salaries in bitcoin. The company does not hold bitcoin and keeps its accounting in dollars. It pays wages in dollars, while Voltage converts the amount into bitcoin and delivers it to employees. Vida Global then settles with Voltage in dollars at month-end.
